Complete list of file formats supported by XTranslator for document, image, and audio translation.

Document Translation​

Supported Formats​

PDF Files (.pdf)​

  • Native PDF: Text-based PDFs
  • Scanned PDF: Image-based PDFs (OCR applied)
  • Max file size by plan:
    • Free: 5MB
    • Starter: 20MB
    • Pro: 50MB
    • Ultimate: 50MB
  • Max pages by plan:
    • Free: 5 pages
    • Starter: 20 pages
    • Pro: 50 pages
    • Ultimate: 100 pages

Word Documents (.docx)​

  • Format: Microsoft Word 2007 and later
  • Formatting: Preserved in translation
  • Max file size/pages: Same as PDF

PowerPoint (.pptx)​

  • Format: Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 and later
  • Elements: Text in slides, notes, shapes
  • Formatting: Layout and design preserved
  • Max file size/pages: Same as PDF (slides counted as pages)

Text Files (.txt)​

  • Format: Plain text, UTF-8 encoding
  • Use case: Simple text without formatting
  • Max file size: Same as PDF
  • No page limit (character limits apply)

Subtitle Files (.srt)​

  • Format: SubRip subtitle format
  • Use case: Video subtitles, captions
  • Timing: Timestamps preserved
  • Max file size: Same as PDF

Not Supported​

  • ❌ .doc (use .docx instead)
  • ❌ .ppt (use .pptx instead)
  • ❌ .rtf (convert to .docx)
  • ❌ .odt (convert to .docx)
  • ❌ Excel files (.xlsx) - coming soon
  • ❌ HTML files (.html) - coming soon

Image Translation (OCR)​

Supported Formats​

  • JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
  • PNG (.png)
  • WEBP (.webp)
  • GIF (.gif) — first frame only (no animation)

File size limits by plan​

  • Free: up to 5MB per image
  • Starter: up to 10MB per image
  • Pro / Ultimate: up to 20MB per image

Not Supported​

  • ❌ HEIC/HEIF (convert to JPG)
  • ❌ SVG vector files
  • ❌ RAW camera formats

Audio Translation​

Supported Formats​

  • MP3 (.mp3)
  • WAV (.wav)
  • MP4/M4A (.mp4, .m4a)
  • OGG (.ogg)
  • FLAC (.flac)
  • WebM (.webm)
  • AAC (.aac)

Duration limits by plan​

  • Free: up to 2 minutes per audio file
  • Starter: up to 10 minutes per audio file
  • Pro: up to 15 minutes per audio file
  • Ultimate: up to 20 minutes per audio file

Not Supported​

  • ❌ WMA (convert to MP3)
  • ❌ Video files (.mov, .avi, .mkv) - extract audio first

Best Practices​

For Documents​

  • Use native formats (not scanned) when possible
  • Clean formatting improves accuracy
  • Smaller files process faster
  • Split large documents if exceeding limits

For Images​

  • Ensure text is clear and readable
  • Avoid heavy blur or glare
  • Crop to text region for best results

For Audio​

  • Clear speech with minimal background noise
  • Reasonable volume and pacing

If your file isn't supported, use these free tools:

  • Documents: Microsoft Office, Google Docs, LibreOffice
  • Images: GIMP, Paint.NET, online converters
  • Audio: Audacity, Online Audio Converter, FFmpeg
